One of the most prominent Romanesque monuments in the Lake Balaton area is the parish church of St Mary Magdalene of the Penitent, also known as the Upper Village Preposterry Church. The parish is located on a small hill in the centre of the village of Upper Ores. The purple-red stone walls of the building date back to the 13th century and have preserved their Árpád-era character, hardly changing over the centuries.

After the Tatar invasion, in the early 13th century, the red sandstone tower of the church was built, and the rest of the building was completed by the end of the 1260s. The nave vault was built in Gothic style in the 14th century. The building was later damaged by the Turks, but was restored in the mid-18th century and partly rebuilt in Baroque style.

The most beautiful part of the façade of the church is the three semicircular windows with pedimented arches, separated by double nodes. In the country, only the parish church of St Mary Magdalene of the Penitents in Upper Town and Pannonhalma have such Hercules knots. The interior of the church is furnished in Baroque style, and the high altar and the pulpit also bear Baroque features. The three-nave parish church is also the venue for several concerts in summer.

When in Upper Ores, it is worth visiting the geological site of the Fountain Hill, which starts from the outskirts of the village, with a green tourist sign leading to a short tour.
